Better Breather's Club

Classes and Support Groups, 2016

HANFORD – Adventist Health is partnering with the American Lung Association to bring the first “Better Breather’s Club” to Kings County.

Clubs already exist in Fresno and Tulare counties, but now Hanford-area residents will benefit from a support group that focuses on education and the social and emotional wellness of those suffering from lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, severe allergies, cystic fibrosis or any other chronic lung disease.

“Having the chance to meet other people who are dealing with a similar condition can be very important in terms of living with a disease,” says Rebecca Goodstein, registered dietitian and the Community Wellness director for Adventist Health / Central Valley Network.

The support group is free and is also available to caregivers.

Dr. Vishnu Bezwada, who is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care, will be the first speaker from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9. Dr. Bezwada offers care in the Intensive Care Unit at Adventist Medical Center – Hanford, the Adventist Health / Lung Care Center and Community Care – Hanford Specialty. He will explain the disease process of asthma and COPD.

Meetings will take place in the Physicians Lounge inside the Lacey Medical Plaza, 1524 W. Lacey Blvd., on the second Wednesday of most months, depending on the air quality and weather conditions.

Healthy snacks will be served. For more information, please call Goodstein at (559) 537-0083 or send an email to her at Rebecca.Goodstein@ah.org.
