Adventist Medical Center Among Top 5% in Nation for Clinical Excellence 2016

Awards & Recognition

Adventist Medical Center has received the 2016 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence for the third consecutive year. This recognition by Healthgrades places Adventist Medical Center in the top five percent of hospitals nationwide for consistently demonstrating safe and effective clinical care, solidifying AMC as one of the nation’s best hospitals.

The distinction represents research gathered by Healthgrades, an independent organization that evaluated over 4,500 hospitals across the nation for 32 common inpatient conditions and procedures. Every hospital aims to provide the highest quality care to every patient, yet only some manage to achieve superior performance across many common treatments.

Data shows that if all hospitals in America performed with the same level of quality as Adventist Medical Center, more than 158,858 lives could potentially have been saved between 2012 and 2014. For example, when a patient is treated at a hospital that has received this level of clinical excellence, they are 32 percent less likely to die from heart failure than if they were treated at a hospital without this distinction.

“Our mission calls us to provide our community and our patients with the best possible care,” says Joyce Newmyer, president and CEO of Adventist Medical Center. “It’s our goal to provide every patient with an exceptional experience and outstanding care in each interaction they have with Adventist Health. This award shows our ongoing commitment to that quality.”

Thirty-two common conditions and procedures are evaluated for award eligibility, including cardiac surgery, stroke, joint replacement, spine surgery and gastrointestinal care. Healthgrades reviewed and analyzed approximately 40 million Medicare patient records to determine mortality and complications in hospitals. Their methodology weighted the inherent risks of age, gender and preexisting conditions.
