Gala To Raise Money for Cancer Center

Sonora Regional Medical Center will hold its 16th Annual Joie de Vie Gala at Ironstone Vineyards on Sunday, October 16, 2016. All proceeds from the benefit event will go to its Cancer Patient Support Fund and to raise funds for construction of the Diana J. White Cancer Institute and Outpatient Pavilion at the corner of Greenley Road and Mono Way.

The Joie de vie Gala will include a Parisian-themed dinner and entertainment, and a silent auction featuring items such as artwork, dinners, gift baskets and vacation opportunities.

This year’s Gala will feature keynote speaker Dave Dravecky, former Giants pitcher and cancer survivor. “We are so grateful and excited to have Mr. Dravecky share his story with us,” said Lindsay Brewer, director of marketing and public relations and Gala committee member. “Cancer is a disease that, either directly or indirectly, seems to affect all of us. Stories like Mr. Dravecky’s are an inspiration.”

The Gala will also feature the presentation of the annual Irving Symons Award, which recognizes long-term, outstanding community service. This year’s recipient is Kate Powell Segerstrom, who has served the citizens of the Mother Lode in both the public and private sectors. Former recipients of the award include Irving Symons, Frank Salel, H. Randolph Holder, Robert Cutler, Pete Kerns, Pete and Sue Kleinert, Joe Martin, Chuck and Willy Evans, Mary Laveroni, Patricia and Harvey Rhodes, Ty Wivell, and Dick and Audrey Pland.

Andee Houser, human resource manager at Black Oak Casino Resort, will co-chair the Joie de Vie Gala Committee. She will be assisted by returning committee members Kathren Alexander, Lindsay Brewer, Jan Costa, Kimberly Darr, Katie Dunn, Sally Dunn, Kim Habekost, Deedra Hope, Sally Kerns, Shari Lyons, Roya Mahmoudi, Kathrina McRee, Angel Royce, Julie von Savoye, Shirley Sarno, Lyn Wilson and Leanne Wolf.

Kathrina McRee, the Medical Center’s physician recruiter and Gala Committee co-chair, says the Joie de Vie Gala is always a festive opportunity for Cancer Center supporters to come together for the cause. “We’re excited about making this year’s Gala an especially memorable event for the people who support us in improving cancer care in our community,” she says. McRee says the Medical Center recently added an online giving feature to their website, which will make it easier for more people to participate. “Whether you want to sponsor a table, register to attend, or donate to the Cancer Center funds, you can do it quickly and easily on our new webpage,” she says.
