Medical Center Volunteers Recognized for Their Service

In honor of National Volunteer Month, Sonora Regional Medical Center (SRMC) recognized its many volunteers at an awards luncheon on April 26 at the Fireside Room of Mother Lode Junior Adventist Academy in Sonora. The volunteers, who provide support in areas ranging from patient advocacy to staffing the front desk and gift store, are recognized once a year for their years of service, as well as hours logged. Among the many volunteers receiving awards this month, five have 20 to 30 years of service, and three have logged from 6,000 to 25,000 hours of volunteer work over the years.

The 2015 awards went to:

10 Years:
Karla Hoback
Sue Nestor
Lucile Stutsman

15 Years:
Helen Buffalo
Terry Lamarra
Ruth Moss
Donna Riplinger

20 Years:
Betty Lindquist
Dee Vis

25 years:

30 Years:

Also recognized for their cumulative hours of service were such long-time volunteers as Leslie Cover (6,000 hours), Ramona Widener (10,000 hours) and Martha Cover (25,000 hours).

In addition to their service, the Medical Center volunteers, who run the hospital gift shop, donate most of the shop’s proceeds to scholarships, targeted patient-assistance funds, and the purchase of some medical equipment for the hospital. So far this year, the volunteer office has donated $10,000 to SRMC’s Capital Campaign for its new Cancer Center and $500 to its Home Health Care unit. The funds will be used to purchase occupational health items for patients who cannot afford them. The volunteers also donated $3,000 to the Life-Line program, which provides home-based medical alert and monitoring equipment and services.

“As a not-for-profit healthcare system, Sonora Regional Medical Center is grateful to our volunteers,” says Gail Witzlsteiner, Executive Director of the Medical Center Foundation. “They provide invaluable services to our patients, staff and the public.”
