Dr. Mee-Lee receives Adventist Health Physician of the Year Mission Award

Physicians

Annually, Adventist Health, Castle Medical Center’s parent corporation, honors its physicians selected by their hospitals who exemplify exceptional, loving care. Among the eighteen physicians recognized was Castle Medical Center psychiatrist Denis Mee-Lee, M.D.

Dr. Mee-Lee attended Harvard University, studying under Dr. Gerald Caplan, the founding father of community psychiatry. He started several units in Ohio and New England for therapeutic treatment of mental illness and addiction before moving to Hawai‘i.

In Hawai‘i, Dr. Mee-Lee was recruited to be chief psychiatrist for the state, founded the psychiatric unit at Castle Medical Center, and was appointed chief of the Mental Health Division for Hawai‘i’s Department of Health. Since leaving his position with the state, Dr. Mee-Lee has served continuously in administrative positions at Castle, including as the hospital’s chief of staff.
