OB-GYN Joins Adventist Health / Community Care

Physicians

At the age of 15, Carlos Rangel knew he loved science, but he wasn’t sure what career path to follow until his high school counselor at Tulare Western, Veronica Covert, introduced him to Dr. René Charles.

He was given the opportunity to shadow the Adventist Health OB-GYN and watch him perform laparoscopic surgery, a technique in which operations are performed through small incisions. He was so amazed, he decided to become a physician himself.

“I thought about internal medicine at first,” says Dr. Rangel, “but when I did my obstetrics rotation, I discovered I enjoyed performing surgery and working with my hands, so I decided to become an OB-GYN.”

After high school, he earned a Bachelor of Science in biology and a minor in chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. He earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston and completed residency training at Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Torrance.

Dr. Rangel is happy to be back in the Valley and practicing obstetrics and gynecology at Adventist Health / Community Care clinics in Riverdale and in the Home Garden neighborhood southeast of Hanford.

In his free time, he enjoys cycling, traveling and watching sports.

Dr. Rangel is fluent in Spanish and may be reached at Community Care – Home Garden, 11899 Shaw Place, with a phone number of 559-537-0192; and Community Care – Riverdale, 3567 W. Mt. Whitney Ave., with a phone number of (559) 867-7200.
