Physicians

Adventist Health is pleased to welcome interventional cardiologist Douglas Wysham, MD, FACC, to our expert cardiology team at Northwest Regional Heart & Vascular. In addition to his clinical interest in diagnosing and treating all varieties of heart conditions, he is also passionate about the emergency care of heart attack victims. Dr. Wysham is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in the specialty of General Cardiology as well as in the subspecialty of Interventional Cardiology.

Treating a heart attack is a special privilege to Dr. Wysham. “It is a challenge which calls on the rapid mobilization and coordination of a hospital’s facilities and personnel. Fortunately, Adventist Health/Walla Walla General Hospital stands at the forefront of the cardiology field, second to none in the State of Washington,” says Dr. Wysham.

Dr. Wysham received his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill – School of Medicine. Then he completed an Internal Medicine internship and residency at Oregon Health Sciences University, before finishing fellowship training in Cardiovascular Disease at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

He has been an advocate and active participant in furthering research in the field of emergency treatment of heart attacks and has been published in nearly 35 papers, abstracts, reviews and presentations. Additionally, Dr. Wysham has designed a special sheath for placing catheters in the blood stream and has also patented a steering tool for use in angioplasty.

Dr. Wysham uses the Golden Rule — do unto others as you would have them do unto you — as a foundation for his cardiology practice. “I make a special effort to treat my patients as I would like to be treated myself,” Dr. Wysham says. “I aim to maximize a person’s wellbeing and quality of life.”

Before coming to Walla Walla General Hospital, Dr. Wysham served as Chairman of the Cardiology Department at Deaconess Medical Center and was a member of the Board of Directors at Rockwood Clinic, P.S. in Spokane. He has also previously served as Director of the Cardiac Catherization Laboratory at Sacred Heart Medical Center and was Chairman of the Heart Institute of Spokane.

Douglas and his wife Carol Wysham, MD, have two children: son Nicholas and daughter Katherine, who are both currently in medical fellowship programs. As a resident of eastern Washington for more than 20 years, his outdoor recreational interests includes fly fishing, wind surfing, bike riding, and hiking. He also enjoys the loving companionship of his two labradoodles.
