Calling All New Nursing Grads!!!

CENTRAL VALLEY – Are you interested in and committed to pursue perioperative nursing as a specialty?

Adventist Health / Central Valley Network RN-Perioperative Residency Program (new grads welcome to apply) is scheduled to begin September 14, 2015. This innovative program is based on the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) curriculum and is designed to integrate current RN's into the world of Perioperative Nursing. Through lecture, discussion, self-learning modules and clinical experience, nurses will develop core competencies in:

  • Pre-operative assessments
  • Basic operating room case prep skills
  • Creation and maintenance of sterile fields
  • Intra-operative documentation
  • Intra-operative scrub and circulating duties
  • Correct processing of specimens
  • Positioning of patients and equipment
  • Safe care and handling of surgical instruments
  • Safe use of specialty equipment needed for surgery
  • Airway management, anesthesia safety and malignant hypothermia management

The course allows the nurse intern to learn in a clinical setting with coaching from the Education team and qualified staff. Upon completion, the nurse will then move to an available perioperative position and become a key member of the operating room team. Selected applicants will be invited to participate in an OR open house and will have the opportunity to interview and shadow in the OR.

The first 8 weeks of the program typically requires meeting five days a week for eight hours each day. Typically, hours are from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Afterwards the shift may change based on departmental needs and your orientation plan.
