Demolition of Former Andy's Home Center Makes Way for New Facility

News

Demolition of the former Andy's Home Center on the corner of Mono Way and Greenley Road in Sonora will occur this month. The building and surrounding grounds were purchased by Sonora Regional Medical Center in 2013, and will be used to construct its new 65,000 square foot outpatient Pavilion and Cancer Center. The Medical Center anticipates that emptying the building and preparing for demolition will take a few weeks, with the actual tear-down of the building occurring at the end of the month.

The Medical Center is working with its construction firms Quiring General, LLC and California Gold Development Corporation to salvage a number of items from the old building, such as lighting fixtures and air-conditioning units, for donation to area nonprofit agencies.

Prior to demolition, during the week of August 10, the Sonora Fire Department will utilize the empty building to conduct training exercises. Medical Center Vice President of Operations Michelle Fuentes says, "We are happy to provide space for the local fire department to practice. It isn't very often they have the opportunity to break down doors and destroy walls!" There will be a number of fire trucks on the construction site during the training week, so the public should be aware that this is a planned event.

Construction of the new Pavilion and Cancer Center are expected to be complete in late 2016 or early 2017.
