Two New Providers Join Oakhurst Clinic

Physicians

OAKHURST – A family medicine physician and a clinical psychologist, who was displaced by the most recent wildfire in Oakhurst, have joined Adventist Health / Community Care – Oakhurst.

Dr. William Cusick is a board-certified family medicine physician with 15 years of experience.

He was born in Northborough, Mass., and attended the nearby University of Connecticut. He moved to California to attend medical school at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, Calif., and completed his residency from California Hospital in Los Angeles.

Dr. Cusick has been practicing family medicine in Oakhurst for several years, but joined Adventist Health in mid-September.

“I love the scenery here,” he says. “The mountains are nice, and we’re so close to Yosemite.”

Dr. Cusick is fluent in English and Spanish.

Dr. Lorie DeCarvalho is bringing psychological care to the Oakhurst community.

“Behavioral health services have not existed in this area for quite some time, so I am honored to again be able to serve and provide care here,” she says.

Dr. DeCarvalho led the creation of Adventist Health’s Behavioral Health Department in Hanford, back in 2005. She’s board-certified through the American Academy of Experts in traumatic stress and through the National Center for Crisis Management. She received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Loma Linda University, and completed her post-doctoral fellowship at the National Center for PTSD in Honolulu.

Dr. DeCarvalho cares for patients of all ages with conditions such as depression, anxiety, trauma/PTSD, grief, chronic health issues and more.

“I have always wanted to be a doctor,” she says, “but I realized I wanted to help people on a deep mental and emotional level, so I pursued becoming a clinical psychologist.”

Dr. DeCarvalho came to the community of Oakhurst as it battled two wildfires just weeks apart. Her home was among those recently evacuated due to the most recent fire.

Dr. DeCarvalho says the beautiful area attracted her to Oakhurst, because it’s much like the part of Oregon where she grew up. She noticed how tightknit the community is and looks forward to being a part of it.

Dr. DeCarvalho is fluent in English, Portuguese and some Spanish. She and Dr. Cusick may be reached at Community Care - Oakhurst, 48667 Victoria Lane, with a phone number of (559) 683-2711.
