Heroes in Health Care: Recognizing Those Who Make A Difference

Awards & Recognition

Ukiah, CA – On Thursday, November 6, 2014, Brutocao Family Vineyards and Ukiah Valley Medical Center(UVMC) will honor local Heroes in Healthcare at a celebration and dinner from 5:30 – 8:30 PM, at Brutocao Family Vineyards, in Hopland.

The heroes were selected by the UVMC volunteers, to recognize healthcare professionals who have made a significant difference to others through their work, and through their caring connections within the local community.

The last Heroes in Health Care event was held two years ago, according to Allyne Brown, UVMC Philanthropy Director. “It was a tremendously moving experience to realize and appreciate how these heroes, our colleagues and friends, had impacted our local community,” she said. “We expect this year's celebration to be just as touching.”

The honored heroes include: Robert “Burt” Calson, MD; Lynn Chevalier; Donald Coursey, MD; Brenda Hoek, RN; Marty Lombardi; and the Cancer Resource Centers of Mendocino County.

Dr. Robert “Burt” Calson will be recognized for over 30 years of outstanding service to the local community as an allergy specialist, and as the Director of Respiratory Therapy at UVMC.

Lynn Chevalier's service to others as an employee, ambassador, and model of courage will be celebrated.

Dr. Donald Coursey will be recognized for his generosity in donating time, energy, and treasure to support organizations that contribute to the overall health and well-being of the community.

Brenda Hoek, RN, will be honored for her selfless service as a nurse, and who in her retirement continues to help patients living with diabetes manage their condition.

Marty Lombardi's lifetime of remarkable contributions to the local community will be celebrated.

The Cancer Resource Centers of Mendocino County will be honored for providing outstanding, individualized services to cancer patients.
