REEDLEY – A pediatrician with 27 years of experience, including at Children’s Hospital Central California, is now caring for patients at Adventist Health / Community Care - Reedley Children’s Health.

Dr. Maurice Gaytan is board-certified through the American Board of Pediatrics. He’s also certified with California Children Services (CCS), which is a state program for children with health issues such as heart disease, cancer and infectious diseases.

“I love treating children,” says Dr. Gaytan. “They represent our future, so I want to make sure I can make every contribution I can to help them prosper and do well in our communities.”

Dr. Gaytan became interested in the medical field at an early age. His father and sister are both registered nurses.

He was born in El Salvador, but grew up in Venice, Calif., near the beach. Dr. Gaytan earned a bachelor’s in biological sciences from University of California at Davis, and a medical degree from University of California at San Francisco. He completed his internship and residency training at Children’s Hospital Central California.

“After my residency, I developed friendships here,” says Dr. Gaytan, “so I decided to stay in the Central Valley. There’s also a large Hispanic population here and I’ve seen the satisfaction on a child’s face when they can communicate with their physician in their own language.”

Dr. Gaytan speaks both English and Spanish.

He has a 23-year-old daughter, who is studying law. In his free time, he enjoys long-distance bike riding, skiing, golfing and getting involved in community affairs and charities.

Dr. Gaytan may be reached at Reedley Children’s Health at 1433 N. Acacia Ave., with a phone number of (559) 637-2384.
