Former Stanford University Physician Now at Spine and Pain Center

HANFORD – Dr. Michael Brook, a former Stanford University physician and professor, is caring for patients with chronic pain at the Adventist Health / Spine and Pain Center.

He’s board-certified through the American Board of Anesthesia in anesthesiology and pain management and has 27 years of medical experience.

Dr. Brook knew he wanted to become a doctor after volunteering in an emergency room in Houston, Texas.

“I remember a patient entering the ER in full cardiac arrest,” says Dr. Brook. “I was fascinated at how the physicians were able to help these patients with such challenging medical issues.”

He was also inspired by his mother, who was an operating room nurse, and his sister, who’s a pediatrician.

Dr. Brook grew up in Washington, D.C. He studied at University of Michigan, earned his medical degree from University of Maryland and completed an internship at Washington Hospital Center, residency at University of Miami and fellowship at Stanford University.

Before coming to Adventist Health, Dr. Brook cared for patients at Stanford University, and served as a clinical associate professor and adjunct clinical faculty.

“I chose to come to the Central Valley because I want to help with the rural health care system,” says Dr. Brook. “I look forward to working directly with patients and managing their complex medical and pain issues.”

Dr. Brook is an avid hiker, so he also looks forward to exploring the surrounding national parks. He also enjoys biking and skiing. Dr. Brook has been married for 16 years and has three children, ages 13, 15 and 16.

He's available by physician referral at the Spine and Pain Center, 470 N. Greenfield Ave., Suite 305, with a phone number of (559) 537-0325.
