Welcoming Mathea Salas, DO, Board-Certified Family Medicine Doctor

Physicians May 9, 2014 (Sonora, CA) - Sonora Regional Medical Center is excited to welcome
Mathea Salas, DO, a board-certified family medicine physician to Sonora Regional Medical Center’s Foothill Pediatrics & Family Practice clinic.

Dr. Salas received her medical degree from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, Missouri and performed her residency at the Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Riverside, California. Before joining the Medical Center, Dr. Salas worked for a variety of hospitals in South Dakota. She has served in a number of roles including Clinical Medical Director and Cardiac Rehabilitation and Trauma Director for rural hospitals. Dr. Salas comes to the community with close to a decade of family physician experience.

Family practice is the area of medicine that Dr. Salas most sees herself doing. “I thought becoming a doctor of osteopathy was perfect because I could still see the mainstream of patients while still offering greater variety of treatment modalities with a naturalistic perspective,” says Dr. Salas. The aspect of her job that she enjoys most is being able to develop relationships with her patients. “I don’t know of a better way to really connect with people in a more meaningful way,” says Salas. “It’s very powerful and very humbling.” Dr. Salas first discovered her love for the medical field at the urging of her college classmates where she was given an opportunity to blend her love for science with her desire to help others.

Our community is a good fit for Dr. Salas. “This is the perfect sized community to raise my children with a number of opportunities to get involved,” says Salas. “I have gotten involved previously with local schools through anti-bullying projects and this community is one I can really get involved with.” She has also taught dance classes to a number of other rural children as a way of giving back to her community.

In her free time, Dr. Salas enjoys the outdoors. Biking, snowboarding and cross-country skiing are only a few of the activities she enjoys. Both she and her husband also enjoy ballroom dancing and their three children have emulated that passion through their love of gymnastics.
