New CEO Appointed at Adventist Medical Center

News Joyce Newmyer has been appointed President of the Northwest Region of Adventist Health, including President/CEO of Adventist Medical Center (AMC) in Portland effective May 30, 2014. Newmyer replaces Tom Russell, former president who has been named corporate vice president of population health innovations for Adventist Health’s 19 hospitals in 4 western states.

Newmyer served at Washington Adventist Hospital in Maryland for the past five years, three of those as president. Under Newmyer’s leadership, significant hospital recognitions were achieved including The Joint Commission Top Performer and U.S. News and World Report Top Regional Hospital.

Newmyer’s experience stretches across the nation from Florida Hospital in Orlando to Simi Valley Hospital in California.  She holds a master’s degree in health services administration from St. Francis University, Joliet, Il., and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from California State University, Fresno.

The Northwest Region of Adventist Health includes Adventist Medical Center – Portland, Tillamook Regional Medical Center and Walla Walla General Hospital along with 43 medical clinics, two home care agencies and two retirement centers. Newmyer, as senior vice president of the 3 state system of Adventist Health will also chair the governing boards of operations in Tillamook, OR and Walla Walla, WA.

Newmyer and her husband G.J. have four adult children and two grandchildren.
