Executive Promotions at St. Helena Hospital Napa Valley

and St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake

May 15, 2014 (Roseville, Calif.) – Steve Herber, M.D. has been named president and CEO of St. Helena Hospital Napa Valley with responsibilities for hospital and clinic services in Napa County and the surrounding area including the hospital’s Center for Behavioral Health in Vallejo. Herber has been serving as interim CEO of the St. Helena Region hospitals, which includes St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake, since October 2013. As part of the restructuring, David Santos, formerly vice president of operations for St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake has been promoted to president and CEO for the hospital and services in South Lake County. Herber and Santos will assume their new roles effective May 15, according to Jeff Eller, president of Adventist Health’s Northern California Region, to whom the two roles will report.

"Both Steve and David are known for years of service in their respective communities. I am pleased that our region will now have dedicated leaders on each campus. They have both been promoted from within our ranks, are committed to our mission and are dedicated to addressing the distinctive needs of each area," said Eller.

Before his term as interim CEO, Herber served as chief medical officer, senior vice president of medical affairs, and most recently, executive vice president. In addition to these administrative roles, Herber, a board-certified plastic surgeon practicing in St. Helena for more than 15 years, has held several medical staff positions including: chief of staff, chair of performance improvement, chair of credentials, chair of education and medical director of plastic surgery.

Santos is currently the vice president of operations at the 25-bed Clearlake facility. He has an extensive background in health care including serving as chief operating officer for California Medical Group, where he strengthened clinic operations and significantly expanded the group’s size. Santos also worked in physician services at Adventist Health hospitals in Hanford, California, and gained experience in physician practice management at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He held management positions at Central Texas Medical Center and Florida Hospital Ormond Memorial.
