We are pleased to acknowledge the hard work of LaLonnie Hurliman, RN, Nurse Navigator and Care Coordinator at Tillamook Medical Plaza with the April Employee of the Month Award. LaLonnie has worked diligently since October of 2013 to launch a pilot nurse navigator program for patients with breast cancer. This program was funded with a $30,000 Adventist Health Innovations grant in 2013. The concept is for the nurse navigator to be a personal ally for the cancer patient, helping the patient navigate the often confusing process of cancer treatment, from diagnosis to aftercare. The program is in its pilot phase under LaLonnie’s direction; ultimately TRMC would like offer nurse navigation for all of our cancer patients.

In addition to getting the nurse navigator program off the ground, LaLonnie is keeping up with her care coordinator duties and has pitched in with Cover Oregon activities as well. Through it all, she has remained patient focused, professional and an indispensable team member.

“LaLonnie is just wonderful,” said Gina Seufert. She really has our patients’ best interests at heart; she is a patient advocate first and foremost. She exemplifies our mission in the community.”From LaLonnie’s EOM nomination:

“When I approach LaLonnie with a question or I am looking for assistance for a patient she is always ready to help. Sometimes her help is nothing more than an acknowledgment that we are doing everything we can, but more often she will simply take the task on herself. I know when I hand off a problem to LaLonnie she will do everything she can for a positive patient outcome. I know the patients are in good hands because she puts the patients’ needs as her first priority.”

Congratulations LaLonnie and thank you for your good work.
