Paint Downtown Pink Event to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness

HANFORD – The community is invited to help Adventist Health / Breast Care Center “Paint Downtown Pink” during the Thursday Night Market Place on Thursday, Sept. 4. Everyone is welcome to wear pink and participate in a contest to win prizes and fitness items.

To promote physical activity, contestants will sign up at the Adventist Health booth to receive a pink pedometer. Then, they will be asked to walk for breast cancer awareness by completing 2,500 steps around the Market Place (about a mile and a quarter). Once completed, participants will receive a free gift while supplies last, and will be entered into a drawing to win larger prizes.

“We are excited to have community members really get engaged while learning about ways to prevent breast cancer,” says Laurie Schirling, Breast Care Center coordinator.

Prizes will also be given to the top three Market Place booths displaying pink pride. Meanwhile, the Adventist Health booth will have a fun Facebook photo booth with wacky pink props for walk participants. Images from the photo booth will be posted on the Adventist Health / Central Valley Network page the following day.

“Paint Downtown Pink” will begin at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 4th at the Adventist Health booth on Irwin Street, between 7th and 8th streets in Downtown Hanford.

The Breast Care Center, on the second floor of the Hanford Medical Pavilion, 125 Mall Drive in Hanford, offers a full complement of services covering multiple aspects of breast diagnostics and other care, including digital mammography, ultrasound, bone densitometry and stereotactic breast biopsies. The phone number is (559) 537-2300.
