New Family Medicine Physician at Selma Clinic


SELMA – Adventist Health / Community Care - Selma clinic is pleased to have Dr. Mario Martinez as its new family medicine physician.

For three years, Dr. Martinez was a resident at the Selma clinic, and a chief resident of the UCSF – Fresno program from 2013-14. He decided to stay in the area to practice medicine and continue serving the community.

“I did my medical school rotation here and fell in love with the UCSF – Fresno program,” he says.

Dr. Martinez is originally from the East Bay Area. As a child, he had asthma and developed an admiration for his doctors, which made him want to pursue the medical field.

He graduated from University of California at Davis, earned his medical degree from University of Illinois, College of Medicine – Peoria Medical School and became certified with the American Board of Family Medicine.

During his residency training, Dr. Martinez was able to get to know the Central Valley.

“I love the population, demographics and rural setting,” he says. “There is a big need for medical care here, and I feel a lot of gratification serving the people.

Dr. Martinez is fluent in Spanish. He’s the first person in his family to become a doctor. He has a wife, 4-month-old son and 2-year-old daughter.

In his free time, he enjoys traveling, dancing and sports, specifically golf and basketball.
