WWGH Announces New Interim Chief Financial Officer & New Chief Medical Officer

Walla Walla General Hospital announces two executive-level changes that will take effect in May 2014. Brian Anderson, who is currently the vice president for outpatient services, will become interim chief financial officer for the organization; and Tom Underhill, MD, will assume the role of chief medical officer in addition to his current role as an emergency physician.

"Anderson’s past experience as a CFO, his current experience as part of the WWGH executive team and his enthusiasm for the hospital make him a great fit for this role," says Monty Knittel, president and CEO. His previous roles in hospital finance include being CFO at Capitol Medical Center in Olympia, Wash., and controller at Adventist Medical Center in Portland, Ore., along with earlier work at Florida Hospital in Orlando. Anderson takes on this role as current CFO Greg McCulloch transitions to a role at Sonora Regional Medical Center, an Adventist Health hospital in Sonora, Calif.

Tom Underhill, MD, has agreed to become chief medical officer for WWGH effective May 1. Dr. Underhill has been an ER physician at WWGH since 2004, becoming the emergency department medical director in 2011. Dr. Underhill also served as WWGH chief of staff from 2011 to 2013.

"During his time at WWGH, Dr. Underhill has been an enthusiastic advocate for high quality patient care. He developed an outstanding team of ER physicians and led out in the development of our new Emergency Center which opened in 2012," says Knittel. "He is appreciated by staff and patients alike and we are pleased to have him take on this new role."

David Woolever, MD, was WWGH’s first CMO serving from 2009 until February 2014. Dr. Woolever is moving back to an outpatient internal medical practice with Adventist Health Medical Group starting June 16. AHMG will begin taking appointments for Dr. Woolever in mid-May.
