Willits, CA -- "At Frank R. Howard Memorial Hospital (HMH) we are always looking for ways to improve our customer service and think of ways to better help our neighbors," shared Chief Executive Officer, Rick Bockmann, who continued, "It's who we are at Howard and it reflects our Planetree philosophy of empowering our employees to take it upon themselves to make a difference."

Planetree is a nonprofit patient-centered care organization that helps health care organizations and hospitals take a humanistic approach to health care, promoting mental, emotional, spiritual, social and physical healing. A philosophy which fits nicely with HMH's mission of reflecting God's love to our community by providing physical, mental and spiritual healing.

Based on those principles employees at HMH are empowered to help patients have the best experience possible. That is the main reason HMH decided to pursue using a patient-friendly paging system. Cindy Bodensteiner, director of surgical services at HMH reflects, "The idea for the pagers really came about when I went to observe a hospital move in Chillicothe, MO. During their move they had begun to use the paging system. Some hospitals use pocket pagers, but these are expensive, can be easily lost or inadvertently taken home. We recently adopted a new paging system at our current hospital and the plan is to continue to use them when we move into our new hospital [later this year] which is a much larger space. The paging system will allow family and friends waiting for a patient in surgery to go to the cafeteria, outside or even for a walk in the Frank R. Howard Foundation Commonwealth Garden located directly across the street."

Chief Nursing Officer, Karen Scott, echoed Bockmann's comments, "Howard is a special place and it's really part of our culture to give employees that opportunity to make a difference. After all we truly are neighbors helping neighbors."

Frank R. Howard Memorial Hospital is a critical access hospital offering comprehensive services which include; Emergency Services, Health Education, Laboratory, Medical Imaging, Orthopedic Joint Center of Northern California, Physical Therapy, and advanced Surgical Services – serving Mendocino and surrounding counties. HMH is set to open the new hospital facility at the end of this year. For a complete listing of services please visit
