Dr. Ben Douglas is Honored for Exemplifying the AH Mission

General

Dr. Douglas has a heart to serve. He is board certified in family medicine, has a family practice with Adventist Health Medical Group, and is the hospice physician advisor. Dr. Douglas’ patients span a lifetime, from infants to people who receive his compassionate care in the final days of their lives.

Patients experience his kindness and his dedication to their healing and respond in kind:

“Dr. Douglas is amazing! He seems as if he is carrying a heavy load, but he always takes special time with his patients. He is my doctor, and I feel blessed.”

“You took time to talk to me during my last appointment. I realize how busy you are and I appreciate the attention you showed me. Please take care of yourself and don’t overdo your attention to your patients. We don’t want anything to happen to you.”

Dr. Douglas finds it very rewarding to form relationships with his patients and to partner with them in their health. He works to help them understand treatment plans and to feel comfortable asking questions. This focus is deeply appreciated by his patients.

“Dr. Douglas is one of my favorite doctors.  He may be the only doctor who I can tell anything to and feel comfortable.”

“Thank you for being so patient and understanding with my husband when he was in his last months of illness.”

“Dr. Douglas is a wonderful doctor and person. He treats you with dignity, is always kind and listens to you and then helps you. He is one of the finest doctors we have and should be praised and thanked. Tillamook needs him.”

Dr. Douglas grew up in Jackson, Mississippi, except for one year when his family lived in Scotland when he was 14. He attended medical school at University of Mississippi School of Medicine and completed his residency in family medicine at University of California at Davis-Merced.

After his residency training, Dr. Douglas worked in the emergency department at Merced Community Medical Center and then for Merced Community Health Centers.  In 1991 he and his wife opened a private practice in Chester, CA, a town of about 2,000 people in the Sierra Nevadas. In 1995 Dr. Douglas and his family moved to Eugene, OR, where he worked at Peace Health Medical Group, in conjunction with Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Dr. Douglas is married to Dr. Callahan, also a family medicine physician. They have three girls:  Emily, Hannah, and Molly.  Dr. Douglas enjoys sailing, playing guitar and singing in the church choir.
