Frank R. Howard Memorial Hospital (HMH) is seeking additional volunteers to join the Auxiliary team. Volunteers play an important role in the care the hospital provides to its patients and the community. Positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to work with a wide variety of departments in the hospital. Volunteers enjoy greeting patients and visitors; bringing patients to visit the pet therapy dog, Miss Holly; delivering meals, books, and flowers to patients; assisting with the orthopedic joint program bi-weekly lunches, monthly reunion luncheons, and educational seminars. Other opportunities include spiritual care services, helping in the Commonwealth Garden, clerical work, creating care packages for patients, fundraising for hospital equipment and planning social and team building events for employees, physicians and staff.

"I like to think of my Auxiliary volunteering as service with a purpose - assisting our hospital in helping those in need. It's oh so easy to meet and greet our visitors and lend a helping hand. Neighbors Helping Neighbors® exemplifies what we do with and for Howard Hospital. It has been a gratifying experience for me during the past 24 years and I'm looking forward to expanding our support services in our new hospital,” Auxiliary Volunteer, Diana Moore said.

Howard Hospital established a tradition of patient-centered care many years ago and the tradition lives on through the efforts of each of our volunteers and staff members. We have partnered with Planetree to help us reach the next tier of excellence in patient care and are almost 2 years into our journey of becoming a designated Planetree hospital. Part of improving the patient experience is strengthening the Auxiliary.

"Volunteers are a wonderful group of people who selflessly give of their time to serve others and their community. As we excitedly await the completion of our new hospital, we look forward to having a larger team to help out at the new location," Volunteer Coordinator Becky Hope said. "I strongly encourage those members of our community who are wondering how they can make a difference to think about volunteering at the hospital. It may be one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever have."
