St. Helena Hospital Receives Twelve 5-Star Ratings and 2 Special Awards from Healthgrades

St. Helena, CA. St. Helena Hospital Napa Valley recently received twelve 5-Star ratings and 2 special awards from Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. The 5-Star ratings include Cardiac, Critical Care, Orthopedic, and Pulmonary care. These ratings are based on actual results patients experienced while in St. Helena Hospital.

Healthgrades objectively measures hospital quality based on the number of patients who experienced complications as a result of their procedure or treatment. For each procedure, treatment, and specialty area, Healthgrades rates hospitals based on their performance. Your risk of complications can be significantly lower at hospitals recognized with 5 stars.

"The recognition from Healthgrades at our hospital illustrates wonderful evidence of the safe and exceptional care delivered by the physicians and employees that are on our caregiver team," states Terry Newmyer, President and CEO of St. Helena Hospital.

In addition to the twelve 5-Star ratings, St. Helena Hospital Napa Valley also received a Healthgrades Specialty Excellence Award in Pulmonary Care, and a Patient Experience Award in Outstanding Patient Experience.

The Pulmonary Care Excellence Award recognizes hospitals for superior outcomes in treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and pneumonia. COPD is a serious lung disease and a leading cause of death and disability in the United States. Pneumonia is a life-threatening condition resulting from inflammation and fluid in the lungs.

The Outstanding Patient Experience Award recognizes hospitals for patient satisfaction based on 27 questions related to doctor and nurse communication, hospital cleanliness and noise level, and medication and post-discharge care instructions.

"We find special meaningfulness in combining the significance of the recent award from NRC Picker, recognizing our hospital as top in the west for overall patient satisfaction, with the new credentials from Healthgrades for safety and excellent care delivery," says Newmyer. "These two forms of affirmation demonstrate our focus to provide both extraordinary patient experiences plus optimal clinical results."
