Adventist Medical Center - Hanford Recognized by Healthgrades as 5-Star Hospital in Gynecological Surgery

News

HANFORD  - Adventist Medical Center – Hanford has been named one of a select group of hospitals identified as providing outstanding performance in gynecologic surgery, as measured by Healthgrades, the leading online resource that helps consumers search, evaluate, compare and connect with physicians and hospitals.

Gynecologic surgery involves the female reproductive system to treat benign tumors, cancer, infertility, incontinence and various other conditions. To help consumers evaluate and compare hospital performance in gynecologic surgery, Healthgrades analyzed patient outcome data in 18 states from 2009 to 2011. Hysterectomies accounted for the majority (75.4%) of all procedures evaluated.Ratings were based on Healthgrades risk-assessment methodology, which defines risk factors as those clinical and demographic variables that influence patient outcomes and are disease-specific and outcome-specific.

Studies found that from 2009 to 2011, patients treated in hospitals receiving five stars for gynecologic surgery have on average a 54.8% lower risk of experiencing complications than if they were treated in hospitals receiving one star.

“These awards are made possible because we have an outstanding team of employees, physicians and volunteers,” said Wayne Ferch, president and CEO of Adventist Health / Central Valley Network. “It’s an honor to be recognized as a leading hospital in the region for women’s services.”

Earlier this year, Adventist Medical Center – Hanford also achieved a 2013 Healthgrades Excellence Award in Joint Replacement, placing it in the top 10% of the nation, as well as 5-star awards in Hip Fracture Repair, Hip Replacement, Knee Replacement and Cholecystotomy for 2013.

The Healthgrades Excellence Award recognizes hospitals for their superior clinical performance and patient outcomes based on data covering one or more medical conditions or procedures in a specialty area. Hospitals receiving Excellence Awards represent the top 10% of the nation’s full service hospitals and provide consistent high-quality care in specific care areas.

In addition, the hospital was named a Blue Distinction Center+ in Knee and Hip Replacement. The Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care® program is a national designation awarded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies to medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise in delivering quality specialty care, based on quality measures focused on improved patient health and safety, as well as cost-efficiency measures.
