Rideout Health Puts Healthy Habits Onstage for Kids!

Rideout Press Releases

Everyone knows how important it is to teach kids about getting and staying healthy – especially during the holidays. Rideout Health agrees so much that they are wrapping up a special gift for Yuba-Sutter elementary and middle school students to be opened in early spring: Healthy Kids School Assemblies!

Rideout Health has always been committed to community outreach, and Rideout is historically a major supporter and encourager of the arts for young people in the Yuba-Sutter community, so the Healthy Kids Assemblies are a perfect fit. Local award-winning theatre director Paul DeMeritt has partnered with Rideout Marketing Manager Linda Plummer and the two have come up with a proven presentation called "Rideout Healthy Kids" that will be adapted especially to suit local young audiences. Students will enjoy a 40-minute program of live music, drama, jokes and dance encouraging them to embrace "The 8 Healthy Habits:"

  • Always eat breakfast!
  • Eat more fruits and vegetables!
  • Limit – or eliminate – sweetened drinks!
  • Limit "screen time" (TV, video, internet)!
  • Increase your physical activity!
  • Eat meals together as a family – sitting down!
  • Be positive about food!
  • Don't criticize yourself and others about weight!

Yuba-Sutter elementary and middle school students will laugh, applaud and even participate onstage when the Rideout Healthy Kids team comes to visit this spring. Comprised of 3 talented actors to be chosen from the Yuba-Sutter region, the team showcases contemporary music and popular cultural references – including a "vegetable eating vampire" – to make their point.

Auditions for the Rideout Healthy Kids team are scheduled for December 16, 17 and 18 at Yuba City First United Methodist Church, Theater/Fellowship Hall, 3101 Colusa Hwy, Yuba City. DeMeritt says, "We are looking for "triple-threat" semi-professional performers 18-30+ years of age; actors who can act, sing and dance AND who love performing for young audiences" Actors interested in auditioning must RSVP by emailing

The actors and technicians will receive a stipend for performance and will enjoy quality sound, special effects, professional musical accompaniment and tons of fun.

The show will cost nothing for local schools – the Assemblies are a gift from Rideout Health to the students, their schools and their families. Administrators and teachers will also receive a Healthy Kids School Resource Kit providing fun, hands-on lesson plans and reproducible activity sheets to follow up on the enthusiasm generated by the show — and students will receive "Healthy Habits Checklists" so they can chart their progress towards super health and fitness!

"We are now accepting applications for the 2014 spring and fall seasons of performance," DeMeritt states; "So if local teachers and administrators have any questions or would like more information about scheduling a Healthy Kids Assembly, they can contact us at:
