HANFORD – Obstetrician/Gynecologist Dr. Sayed Basel has joined the Adventist Health / Consolidated Medical Staff and practices at 460 N. Greenfield Ave., Suite 1, in Hanford. The phone number is (559) 584-0141 and the fax is (559) 584-5711.

Dr. Basel chose to move to Hanford and join the Adventist Health / Central Valley Network Consolidated Medical Staff after rotating through Ob/Gyn Dr. Richard Ellsworth and Dr. Thomas Enloe’s practices during his residency training.

“Their progressive stances in embracing new technologies are the mindset and practice I want to be a part of,” he said. “This is a tremendous opportunity and I’m honored to be working with them.”

Dr. Basel was drawn to the network’s advanced techniques in surgery, such as laparoscopic surgery, and the “small-town charm” of Hanford, he said.  “Hanford is perfect for raising kids, and it is a good fit for me.”

Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive surgery in which operations of the abdomen, like hysterectomies, are performed through small incisions for reduced pain and shorter recovery time.

Dr. Basel was born in Afghanistan and grew up in Union City, a town near San Francisco. He and his twin brother were inspired by their uncle, who is also a doctor, to become physicians. Dr. Basel said surgery is his passion, but also wanted patient interaction, so he chose to become an Ob/Gyn.

“I’m able to establish a nine-month relationship with my patients,” he said. “That combined with the ability to be in the operating room, to have hands-on impact on the health of my patients, is what makes being an Ob/Gyn a meaningful and fulfilling life for me.”

Dr. Basel earned a medical degree from Saint George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, and completed residency training through Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield.

He speaks English, Spanish and Farsi and enjoys running, swimming and spending time with his wife and son.
