Chain Cohn Stiles Donates $200,000 to Name the Grossman Burn Center ICU at San Joaquin Community Hospital

Philanthropy Since founder Morris B. Chain masterfully operated in Kern County courtrooms, Chain Cohn Stiles has been committed to serving the citizens of Bakersfield and Kern County. In keeping with that dedication, the law firm has donated $200,000 to name the Grossman Burn Center ICU at San Joaquin Community Hospital (SJCH). The inpatient center will now be known as the Chain Cohn Stiles ICU, Grossman Burn Center at San Joaquin Community Hospital.

“We’ve seen firsthand in our work representing burn victims how the Grossman Burn Center at SJCH provides world-class care,” said David K. Cohn, Chain Cohn Stiles senior managing partner. “It was important to us as a law firm and as part of this community to be part of bringing state-of-the-art burn care to Kern County. In addition, the Grossman Burn Center’s assistance to the families of children without sufficient financial resources to battle serious burn injuries is something we are very proud to support.”

Since opening in 2009, the Grossman Burn Center at SJCH has cared for more than 1,000 patients, with burns ranging from small scalds to life-threatening full-body burns. Of those patients, approximately 40 percent were children under the age of 18. Before the center opened, residents were forced to travel more than 100 miles from Bakersfield in order to receive specialized burn treatment.

“From the beginning, this community has truly rallied behind this much-needed project,” said Robert J. Beehler, SJCH president and CEO. “We’re incredibly fortunate to have organizations like Chain Cohn Stiles who are willing to support our Grossman Burn Center through both their time and generous financial contributions.”
