Now Making Appointments for Free School Readiness Exams

Multi-Modular Preschool Exams April 18-20, 2012

All children ages 3 to 6 years residing in Tillamook County are invited to sign up for a free school readiness assessment provided through Tillamook County’s annual Multi-Modular Preschool Exams that will be held April 18 through 20 at the Tillamook County Fairgrounds.

Appointments are required. For appointments or more information, call (503)-842-8423 (English) or 503-815-4472 (Spanish).

“This school readiness program has been in place for more than 40 years, due to a strong community partnership in Tillamook County,” stated Gina Seufert, the hospital’s team leader for the community partnership. “The program’s goal focuses on making sure that all of our County’s young children are in good health and ready to learn in school. I strongly encourage all parents to take advantage of this community service for their children ages 3 to 6 years.”

Last year, 265 children from all over Tillamook County received free screenings in 12 health and developmental areas, with referrals made for follow up with professional providers in 241 identified areas of concern. The value of screening services provided per child is more than $1,000 each; community partnerships and donations make it possible to provide this program for a fraction of that amount and to offer these exams free to charge to the children.

Tillamook County’s Multi-Modular Preschool Exams are a community program led by Tillamook County General Hospital in partnership with a number of community organizations, businesses and individuals who believe that early detection of learning barriers is the key to a successful experience in school. Program partners include: Head Start Centers in Tillamook County; Northwest Regional Education Service District – Tillamook; Oregon Health & Science University; Tillamook County Health Department; Tillamook County General Hospital; Tillamook County Schools; Tillamook Vision Center.
