“I believe that children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them all the beauty they possess inside,” is a hit song released March 14, 1986 by the late Whitney Houston.

Words reiterated by Liz Elmore, director of the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Ukiah, “Children are our future and at the Boys and Girls Club our goal is to provide opportunities for success.” When asked how she plans to accomplish this, she said with a smile, “Through our programs for character and leadership development, education and career development, health and life skills, the arts, and sports and fitness.”

Over 100 kids of all ages come through the Boys and Girls Club each day to take advantage of these programs. “We know that there are even more kids that we could help and mentor if they had the transportation and access to our programs,” said Ms. Elmore.

One of the ways they help fund these programs is through their annual Crab Feed, which is scheduled for Saturday March 10, at Carl Purdy Hall at the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds in Ukiah. “Each year we have a crab feed and silent auction to help raise money to fund the great programs we offer our community children. This year we’ve received several generous donations to be auctioned off during our silent auction, including a beautiful antique sideboard from Ukiah Valley Medical Center,” stated Ms. Elmore.

“The sideboard was purchased as an antique for the birthing unit at the old general hospital and has been a fixture at UVMC ever since. We know it would make an eloquent addition to an antique collection,” shared Gwen Matthews, CEO at UVMC.

Tickets for the annual Crab Feed start at $450 for a table of 10. Two seats can also be purchased for $90. In addition to the Crab Feed, there will be a silent auction, dinner and dancing. All ticket sales and silent auction donation proceeds go towards supporting the programs at the Boys and Girls Club. For more information and to purchase tickets, please call (707) 467-4900.
