New OB/GYN Comes to Ukiah

7,000. Depending on the context can seem like a pretty significant number. It’s roughly half the population of Ukiah. It’s also a symbol for the experience of Winston Eddy, M.D.

During his professional career as an OB/GYN, Eddy has performed over 1000 laparoscopies, over 1000 hysterectomies, and delivered over 7000 babies, again almost half the population of Ukiah.

“We are honored to have someone of Dr. Eddy’s stature and experience join our already impressive medical staff at UVMC,” shared Gwen Matthews, CEO.

Dr. Eddy will be part of the growing Women’s Health services at Ukiah Valley Rural Health, currently located at 1050 N. State Street in Ukiah. He joins Vincent Valente, MD (gynecologist); Bev Draught, nurse practitioner and midwife; and Darlene Peck, nurse practitioner.

“We have two other OB/GYNs who will be joining the practice this year,” stated Matthews. “We’re expecting, so to speak.”

Dr. Eddy comes to Ukiah from UC Davis Medical Group in Sacramento where he’s been an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology for the last nine years. Previously, he was the department chairman for the Healthcare for Women at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

Educated at the University of Vermont, Dr. Eddy completed his residency training at Albany Medical Center in New York where he served as chief resident.

In addition to earning his certification from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, he has been recognized for his work in three prestigious areas:
1) Resident Research Award from Albany Medical Center; 2) Albany Medical Center’s Grand Rounds where he lectured on “Battledore Placenta – Does It Make A Difference?”; 3) and the Great Debate Award from Albany Medical Center for a topic of Maternal Corticosteroid for the Prevention of Respiratory Distress Syndrome between 26 and 32 weeks of Gestation.

“Because of his strong clinical skills, experience, and academic background, we are excited to have Dr. Eddy serve as an anchor physician for our growing OB/GYN program,” concluded Matthews.

Dr. Eddy is accepting appointments at his office located at 1050 N. State Street and will be doing surgical procedures and deliveries at Ukiah Valley Medical Center and outpatient procedures and surgeries at the Ukiah Valley Outpatient Pavilion located at 245 Hospital Drive in Ukiah.
