Honig Vineyard & Winery "Pretty in Pink" Fundraiser Supports Women’s Health

ST. HELENA, California —

On October 31, 2011 Honing Vineyard and Winery presented a $10,000 gift to support the St. Helena Hospital Mammography Fund. Shari Bluband, Martin-O’Neil Cancer Center Director, and Linda Schulz, Community Services Director, were present to accept the check. "On behalf of the St. Helena Hospital Foundation and the women in our community who will benefit from this donation, we are grateful for this generous gift," said Schulz. "St. Helena Hospital appreciates the contribution of our community partners."

The Honig family is on a mission. With family members and friends who have struggled with breast cancer, they wanted to do something to make a difference. Thus the Honig Cabernet Sauvignon Pink was born. The brainchild of Marketing Director and Honig family member Regina Weinstein, this limited production, dry Rose of Cabernet Sauvignon (aka Pink Cab), was produced specifically as a way to raise funds for breast cancer. The winery will donate 10% of the sales of this wine each year it is produced.

To celebrate the inaugural release of this wine, Wine Club Manager Melanie McLaren organized the first ever "Pretty In Pink" event at the winery. Attendees were treated to food by Chef Richard Haake, Rockin’ 80’s tunes by DJ Gump and fabulous Honig wines. In addition to an enjoyable time, attendees supported the beneficiary of the event, the Mammography Fund through The Women’s Diagnostic Center at St. Helena Hospital.

The Women’s Diagnostic Center offers screening and diagnostic mammograms as well as bone density tests. Mammography is still the best tool we have for diagnosing breast cancer. Early diagnosis can result in improved outcomes and quality of life. The Mammography Fund provides screening mammograms to women in our community who do not have insurance. Each year approximately 100 uninsured women receive this important health screening test at no cost to them. The Mammography Fund is also supported by Auction Napa Valley, the signature fundraising event for the Napa Valley Vintners.
