SJCH Honors Weight Loss Patients at "Get Your Game On," 6th Annual Bariatric Solutions' Celebration

Event On the evening of Nov. 6, Bariatric Solutions – San Joaquin Community Hospital’s weight-loss center – is proud to present “Get Your Game On,” the 6th Annual Bariatric Solutions’ Celebration. Hosted by Top Prospect Baseball Academy in Northwest Bakersfield, the event serves as recognition for those who have overcome weight loss through either Bariatrics’ surgical or non-surgical weight-loss programs. In addition, through an inspiring keynote speaker, and before-and-after runway show featuring a few of Bariatrics’ most successful patients, those in attendance will be motivated to make healthful changes in their own lives.

Bariatrics’ Director Sheri Seal-Bailey, who herself lost more than 200 pounds – and has kept the weight off for 18 years – knows firsthand that people struggling with weight loss often need to be reached at a personal level in order to make the necessary changes.

“When my granddaughter was born, it was a total wake-up call for me,” Sheri said. “I couldn’t bear the thought that I might not be around to see her grow up. So I decided to start looking at weight-loss surgery options.”
In fact, whether by meal replacement or weight-loss surgery, each one of the caregivers at Bariatrics has been through one of the centers’ various weight-loss programs. It’s their hope that someone will walk away from this celebration with extra enthusiasm they need to begin their own journey.

“Our team is focused on giving patients the tools and support they need to have ultimate success, Seal-Bailey said. “For us, this isn’t a job; it’s about saving lives. When someone first comes to us, they’re afraid they are going to die. We teach them how to live.”

The keynote speaker for the event is Emmy Award-winner and author Jackie Guerra. Having lost more than 170 pounds herself, the self-described Mexican-American valley girl is all too familiar with the difficulties surrounding weight loss. Guerra’s life has been one of constant reinvention and invaluable lessons – the insights she’s picked up along the way have served as inspiration for her first book; UNDER CONSTRUCTION: How I’ve Gained and Lost Millions of Dollars and Hundreds of Pounds.

In addition to Guerra, attendees will enjoy fun, sport-themed activities in honor of the theme of this year’s event, “Get Your Game On.” Festivities include indoor batting cages, a photo booth and much more. Dinner will also be provided, beginning at 6 p.m. at Top Prospect Baseball Academy (12539 Jomani St.).

“I hope anyone who is struggling with their weight will consider coming to our celebration,” Seal-Bailey said. “It’s going to be an inspiring evening full of real-world tips for how you can live life like you’ve always wanted. And, of course, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Admission to the Bariatrics’ Celebration is free, however you must RSVP by Oct. 29. To reserve your spot today, go to or call (661) 869-6760.
