HOSPITAL CELEBRATES HOSPITAL WEEK 2010
From May 9-15, San Joaquin Community Hospital (SJCH) is proud to celebrate National Hospital Week 2010. Hospital Week is a celebration of the dedicated staff and decorated history of hospitals across America. SJCH is proud to celebrate Hospital Week during the year of our 100th Anniversary and pay tribute to the staff that cares for our patients on a daily basis. All week, the hospital will have different activities for employees and community alike – and even a special collection of items to send to overseas troops. Media are welcome to any event, below are the highlights and some suggestions for excellent stories.

Free Massages for all employees
Monday, May 10, from 7:30-10:30 a.m. and 5-8 p.m.

Community Health Fair
Tuesday, May 11, from 9-11 a.m.
Location: Main hospital entrance
This special event will include representatives from many SJCH service lines including Bariatric Solutions, Grossman Burn Center, Wellness Center, Nationally Certified Stroke Center and Nationally Accredited Chest Pain Center.

Chocolate Cake Bake-off
Tuesday, May 11, Noon-1 p.m.
Location: Main hospital entrance
The Bake-off will feature a panel of celebrity judges who will grade employees’ cakes on appearance, texture and taste.

Assistance League Teddy Bear Donation
Wednesday, May 12, 11 a.m.

Assistance League of Bakersfield representatives will present SJCH pediatric patients with donated teddy bears for the first time in what will become an ongoing program.

Ice Cream Social and T-shirt Giveaway
Wednesday, May 12, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 6:30-9 p.m.
Location: Main hospital entrance

All-American Picnic and Collection for Troops
Thursday, May 13, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Location: 27th Street across from the Emergency Department
All week, hospital employees will be encouraged to bring hygiene items and food to send to frontline troops overseas. During Thursday’s All-American Picnic, employees will wear “MASH” style T-shirts and sign hundreds of notecards to be included in the care packages.

Strawberry Feed
Friday, May 14, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Location: Main hospital entrance
This event will feature the climactic finish of hospital week with a grand prize drawing for a $2,500 travel voucher. All employees will be entered in the drawing; those bringing items for the troops will receive additional tickets in the drawing.

BURN CENTER TO HOLD FUNDRAISER FOR BURN SURVIVORS CAMP
The SJCH Burn Center will join with the Bakersfield Firefighters Burn Foundation and Outback Steakhouse to “Send a Kid to Camp.” The proceeds from this special luncheon will go toward sending survivors from the SJCH Burn Center to a residential summer camp for child burn survivors.

SJCH BURN CENTER HOLDS 1ST BURN SURVIVORS PICNIC
Since opening in June 2009, the Grossman Burn Center at SJCH has treated more than 200 patients with 40 percent being children. On May 23, the patients will be reunited with staff for a special picnic honoring their courage and bravery.
