WWGH Is Rolling Out the Pink Carpet

October is breast cancer awareness month! In support of this, Walla Walla General Hospital's Women's Health Pavilion is holding its first Pink Carpet event! Schedule your mammogram from October 12-16 and you will receive a free gift. While you wait, you can enjoy refreshments and browse health literature targeted at your needs. To set up an appointment please call (509)-527-8273.

Here are some tips to help reduce the discomfort associated with mammograms:

  • Schedule your mammogram for a few days after your period has eneded when you breasts are less tender. Avoid the week before your period.
  • Take a pain reliever like ibuprofen or acetminophen an hour before your mammogram.
  • Avoid caffeine for two days before your mammogram.
  • Tell your healthcare provider if you have breasts implants.
  • Ask your X-ray technician about thin, foam pads that she can place between your breast and the machine to lessen discomfort.
  • Since mammograms only require that you strip to your waist, wear a two-piece outfit. This way you'll feel less exposed.
  • Don't wear any deodorant, perfume, lotion, or powder under your arms or on your breasts on the day of your mammogram appointment. These things can make shadows show up on your mammogram.
