San Joaquin Community Hospital Implements State-of-the-Art Autopulse Machines

Quality San Joaquin Community Hospital is excited to announce that we have acquired five Zoll AutoPulse machines. These machines, which perform automatic CPR at a level near 100 percent efficient, are placed throughout the hospital.

San Joaquin Community Hospital (SJCH) has purchased and implemented five ZOLL AutoPulse®

Non-invasive Cardiac Support Pumps. Effectively taking the place of manual CPR, the five machines are located throughout the hospital in areas such as the Emergency Room, Cath Lab and the various Intensive Care Units.

Striking without warning at home, out and about or even in a hospital, cardiac arrest is the leading cause of unexpected death in the world. Even when done properly, the best manual CPR chest compressions provide only 30-40 percent of normal blood flow to the brain, and only 10-20 percent of normal blood flow to the heart. Conversely, The AutoPulse achieves near 100 percent efficiency by compressing the entire chest in an automatic, hands-free manner, moving more blood than possible with manual CPR chest compresses.

“Once a person is in cardiac arrest, every minute counts to get the heart beating normally again,” said Stella Williams, RN and SJCH Chest Pain Center Coordinator. “For every minute that passes the chance of survival decreases by 10 percent. After 10 minutes, survival is unlikely. As numerous studies have shown, by adding the AutoPulse to our facility, we have made it a safer and better-equipped place for our patients, staff and guests.”

What does this really mean? As Williams notes, it’s quite simple. “San Joaquin Community Hospital’s main goal is to protect the lives of the people of Bakersfield. By adding the AutoPulse machines to our facility, we have taken an important step forward in achieving that goal.”
