Nearly two-thirds of all people who have cancer will receive radiation therapy at some point during their illness*. People who need radiation therapy in Kern County can access world-class care, close to home, at the AIS Cancer Center.

Our radiation oncology clinic is accredited by the American College of Radiology. This accreditation is given only to radiation oncology providers that can prove compliance with the ACR's high-quality standards. Most radiation oncology departments don't have this accreditation. The AIS Cancer Center is also part of the UC Davis Cancer Care Network, providing our patients access to clinical trials and therapies that may not otherwise be available in our community.

When you receive care at The AIS Cancer Center, your radiation therapy will be planned and supervised by a board-certified radiation oncology team, and every treatment will be performed by certified radiation therapists. Our nurse also holds a certificate from the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation.

That means the people on your cancer team are experts in using radiation therapy and can get the best results possible from this cancer treatment.

Radiation therapy doesn't just kill cancerous cells. It can also damage healthy, normal cells. That's why we've invested in a top-of-the-line Varian TrueBeam medical linear accelerator.

This lifesaving technology can target a tumor within 1 millimeter of accuracy, targeting cancer cells while reducing damage to healthy tissue. Our TrueBeam treatment machines are equipped with technology that accurately verifies the target location for each treatment. TrueBeam machines can even track tumor movement resulting from patient breathing during a treatment, allowing the dose to be more accurately delivered.

Treatment with TrueBeam makes radiation therapy as comfortable as possible. A treatment that might take 30 to 45 minutes with other systems can get done in just 5 to 15 minutes with our equipment.

We are the only cancer center in Kern County with TrueBeam linear accelerators. With them, we can deliver great results with great accuracy in a short period of time. That makes us a great choice for your cancer treatments.

Your comfort: Soothe your mind while we plan your care

Before your radiation therapy begins, our team will use a machine called a CT simulator to map your body and plan your care. You'll need to stay very still during this test, and at our center, we make that easy.

We use the Phillips Ambient Experience, which blends light and sound to immerse you into another world. Spend time deep-sea diving while your team plans your care, or listen to waves lapping on the beach while you watch the surf roll in and out. It's a full-sensory experience, and we're the only hospital in the area that can provide it for you.
