We are looking for applicants who fit our mission. These applicants demonstrate commitment to the ideals of family medicine and whole-person care, possess and develop excellent clinical and interpersonal skills and are willing to provide care to the underserved with energy and compassion.

Our Program

  • Active accreditation by ACGME.
  • Deadline for application is November 15.
  • Applications must be submitted through ERAS only.
  • Size of residency: 6 residents. 6:6:6
  • Newly furnished resident suite
  • On-call rooms and bathrooms with a shower
  • Didactic facility with touchscreen smart board
  • Fully stocked complimentary refrigerator and meals
  • Designated physician parking

Basic Qualifications for Consideration

  • Minimum of three letters of recommendation.
  • Five years or less since medical school graduation (some exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis).
  • U.S. citizen, green card holder or permanent resident status. Applicants requiring visa sponsorship will not be considered.
  • Passing USMLE scores with no more than two failures on any of the steps.
  • Personal statements demonstrating interest in rural family medicine (interest in practicing in a rural area).

Residents are eligible for medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, accidental death and dismemberment benefits offered through Adventist Health Tulare. Plans are not bundled and are available on a voluntary basis.

Resident salaries are reviewed annually by the Graduate Medical Education Committee, GMEC.

Meals

Meals are available in the hospital cafeteria, as well as in the resident lounges for night float residents.

Discretionary Educational Fund

The Discretionary Educational Fund (DEF) is an annual educational stipend for residents to enhance their training experiences as they prepare for an independent practice of medicine. At this time, the DEF is set at $2,000 per resident, per year (amount is subject to change). Funds may be used for a variety of academic expenses.

Educational Leave/Conference Time

Educational leave with compensation is set at five (5) days per academic year and may be used for the following:

  • Educational activities of merit and relevance to the practice of family medicine.
  • Board preparation.
  • Other approved CME course for continuing education, confirmed by the Program Director.
  • USMLE/COMLEZ examinations for all PGY-1 residents.
