The Hanford Community


Hanford has a population of 45,000 and is located in the central San Joaquin Valley of California. The area is blessed with a mixture of agriculture that is unsurpassed in the world. An abundance of vineyards, fruit and nut orchards and vegetable farms surround this community. Hanford has several shopping malls as well as various other shops in the "old" downtown district. West Hills Community College, a junior college, is located in this area.

Two larger communities are 20 to 30 miles away: Fresno, home of California State University, Fresno, with a population of 500,000; and Visalia, home of College of the Sequoias community college, with a population of 100,000. Hanford and these two communities provide many cultural and social events, restaurants, shopping and educational opportunities.

Recreational Opportunities

Sequoia National Park, Kings Canyon National Park, Yosemite National Park and the coastal towns of San Luis Obispo, San Simeon and Cambria are all approximately 1 1/2 hours' drive from Hanford. In these areas you can enjoy backpacking, snow-skiing, mountain-biking, boating, kayaking, beaches, shopping and sightseeing.


Hanford is situated between Interstate 5 and Freeway 99. An International Airport is approximately 30 minutes away in Fresno. Amtrak has a station in Hanford with frequent connections to San Francisco and Los Angeles. But most important, we enjoy unrushed and uncongested roads in and around Hanford.
