Adventist Health: Christian Resigns as President/CEO of South Coast Medical Center
Adventist Health recently announced leadership changes in its Napa/Lake County regions, according to Scott Reiner, senior vice president of the health care system. JoAline Olson, president/CEO of St. Helena Hospital (SHH) and St. Helena Hospital Clearlake (SHC), has been named vice president of Clinical Innovation for Adventist Health. Terry Newmyer, senior vice president at Florida Hospital, has been named president/CEO of SHH and SHC. Both assumed their new roles this month.
In her new position, Olson is responsible for spearheading dynamic innovative initiatives for SHH that can be replicated at other Adventist Health facilities. According to Reiner, the SHH Governing Board and the St. Helena Hospital Foundation are partnering with the system’s senior leadership to create a more satisfying experience for hospital patients and those who participate in wellness programs. A visionary approach to program design that incorporates lifestyle, vitality, health, hope and healing will initially focus on SHH’s Martin O’Neil Cancer Center and on the Center for Health. In addition, Olson also will chair the Philanthropy Council to support and improve results from philanthropy initiatives across Adventist Health.
SHH has a long-standing track record as a leader in innovative health and wellness programs as well as in achieving high patient satisfaction. In addition to serving the local community, the hospital attracts a sophisticated clientele drawn to destination care. As such, the Napa Valley facility will serve as a beta site for many of the new initiatives to be developed for Adventist Health.
Since 2002, Newmyer has held key roles at Florida Hospital in Orlando, the largest hospital in the country, including completion of a $100 million campaign in 2007 while serving as chief development officer of the foundation. As senior vice president for Business Development, he secured alliances worth more than $90 million with companies including Walt Disney World, GE, Philips and Nike. Newmyer’s experience also includes being a named partner with KPMG’s National Strategy Practice where he delivered market strategy consultation to hospitals and payers nationwide. Previously, Newmyer served as senior vice president, Corporate Development, for Lakeland Regional Health System in St. Joseph, Michigan.
During Olson’s 20-year tenure at SHH, 11 as president/CEO, the hospital achieved status as one of the Nation’s top 100 Heart Hospitals and earned many awards for quality, patient and physician satisfaction. Under Olson’s leadership a new Emergency Care Center was designed and constructed, the Center for Behavioral Health in Vallejo was acquired to expand mental health services to adolescents and children, a five-phase master plan was developed to renew the hospital, and as part of Phase I, a new cancer and outpatient surgery pavilion will open in the fall of 2009. Olson also led the effort to combine the leadership of the Napa and Lake County Adventist Health hospitals to maximize resources and provide high quality care in both acute care hospitals.
