Jim Brewster resigns as VP of Finance for Adventist Health

Jim Brewster, vice president of finance at Adventist Health, has announced his resignation, according to Doug Rebok, senior vice president and CFO of the health care system. Brewster will conclude his 32-year career with the organization on January 28, 2011.

“I have worked closely with Jim since 1983, and he has become a trusted colleague and a good friend,” said Rebok. “He will be truly missed by all those who have been fortunate enough to work with him.” Although Brewster is leaving Adventist Health, he is not withdrawing from service. He refers to it as “repurposing his life” and feels that God is leading him to other areas of service.

Brewster began his health care career in 1968 as a patient care assistant in Lincoln, Nebraska. He later made the transition to financial operations as a chief accountant and subsequently became controller for a hospital in Georgia. Brewster came to Adventist Health in 1978 as vice president of Finance for Ukiah Valley Medical Center. He also previously served as director of Budget and Reimbursement for the corporate office and CFO for Adventist Health/Northern California.

Brewster has held his current position since March 2000. In this role, he has overseen many of the financial operations of Adventist Health. He has been responsible for Budget and Reimbursement, Capital Planning, Health Information Management, Patient Financial Services and Performance Engineering at the corporate office.

“Jim’s legacy is that we have functions in place offering quality support to each of our hospitals,” said Rebok. “But one thing I have appreciated so much is his tremendous support of the mission of Adventist Health. He lives that in everything he does, inside or outside of work.”

Brewster adds, “Two things I will remember most are focus on the mission of Adventist Health, and the many wonderful Christian leaders that I have had the privilege of working with.”

He and his wife, Kathleen, have two adult daughters and intend to stay in Auburn, California.
