Castle Medical Center Partners With Cancer Research Organization
Patients at Castle Medical Center now have the opportunity to participate in more than 50 clinical trials being conducted for the prevention and treatment of a range of cancers. The hospital recently joined the minority-based Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP) at the University of Hawaii's Cancer Research Center of Hawaii. Thanks to the partnership, patients will now have more choices and greater access to state-of-the-art therapies and medications being tested in Hawaii, instead of having to travel to the mainland, away from their family support system, to participate in similar studies.
CCOPs have been established throughout the country and are funded by the National Cancer Institute. They form the infrastructure that connects academic centers and research groups with community hospitals and physicians, who in turn, conduct the clinical trials in their communities.
