Adventist Medical Center Cited for Low Infection Rates

Adventist Medical Center in Portland Oregon, recently received positive press coverage regarding its low infection rates. In the past five years, the hospital’s already low infection rate has decreased by almost half.

Much of the success can be attributed to a strategy that includes implementing quality initiatives, such as the Oregon Association of Hospital and Health System’s Hand Hygiene Project, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Guidelines for Prevention Health Care Associated Pneumonia and many others. In addition, the hospital attributes its low infection rate to the commitment and support of these initiatives by physicians, leaders and staff. Last but not least, there is significant emphasis placed on ongoing measurement and data collection. Data is given to respective departments and managers along with couching for improvements.
