Adventist Health Wins Performance Awards from CMS
Several Adventist Health hospitals have been given performance awards in the Medicare, Premier healthcare alliance value-based purchasing project. Based on fourth-year results from the Hospital Quality Incentive Demonstration (HQID) project, Adventist Health hospitals received more than $262,000 in bonus payments from CMS. These facilities include:
Adventist Medical Center ($12,371)
Feather River Hospital ($31,377)
Glendale Adventist Medical Center ($59,549)
St. Helena Hospital ($21,656)
San Joaquin Community Hospital ($47,613)
Simi Valley Hospital (-$15,940)
Sonora Regional Medical Center ($37,584)
White Memorial Medical Center ($67,866)
“Providing outstanding, mission-driven health care is a top priority at Adventist Health,” stated Diane Hoyt, director of Quality for Adventist Health. “Our successes in this voluntary project are a testament to our ongoing efforts to improve the quality of care we offer our patients. Likewise, this initiative has presented our facilities with opportunities for improvement and growth, and we are committed to addressing areas of concern as we strive to provide the highest quality of care to the communities we serve.”
The HQID is the first national project of its kind, designed to determine if economic incentives to hospitals and public reporting of results are effective at improving the quality of inpatient care. Through the project, which has been extended by CMS for an additional three years, Premier collects a set of more than 30 evidence-based clinical quality measures from almost 250 hospitals across the country. HQID tracks process and outcome measures in five clinical areas—acute myocardial infarction (AMI), heart failure, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), pneumonia, and hip and knee replacement.
